Ballingeary, Co. Cork

Ballingeary is a village in the Shehy Mountains in County Cork, Ireland.

The village is within the Gaeltacht and has an active Irish-language summer school, Coláiste na Mumhan . It also hosts a yearly agricultural and horticultural show.

The River Lee rises a few miles west of the village, at Gougane Barra National Park. People[edit source | edit] Timothy Manning, born and raised in Ballingeary before emigrating to the United States, eventually became Cardinal Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
