Duration: 1 day
Come deep sea fishing off the West coast of Ireland. The reef fishing is excellent, ensuring good catches and lasting memories. Fish for giant tuna to shoals of mackerel in the deep clean waters off the coast. All levels of fisherman, from novice to expert, are welcome. Deep sea fishing for shark and tuna around Clifden is among the finest in Europe.
The guided Deep Sea Angling Safari starts in Clifden or Cleggan (transportation to Clifden/Cleggan is not included in package). Depending on the tide, you will meet your skipper at 10:30am either at the pier or at the boat club. The skipper will go through the itinerary for the day and you will get the gear and equipment to have a fantastic fishing day.
Then you will depart for a full day's worth of deep sea angling and you will spend the day traversing the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. You might see basking sharks, common and bottle-nose dolphins, grey seals, orca whales, great skua, puffins, gullemots and razor bills. Some of the islands have ruins on them and you will witness stunning island cliffs and scenery.
The two main fishing techniques you will use are drifting and anchoring. Drifting over reefs in 15m-100m of water will yield ling, cod, coalfish, wrasse and mackerel, to name but a few. Using Red Gill’s and lead heads for pollack is a specialty and provides excellent sport with fish averaging 2.5 kg (5lbs +) that frequently edge over 5.5kg(10lbs +). Summer cod are plentiful and fish in the 10 lb to 15 lbs range are common. Shoals of coalfish vary in size from clouds of 1lb fish to big adults over 10 lbs. A day’s drifting over reefs should yield 10 to 15 species and some additional bait could well increase this up to 15 or 20 species. After an exciting seafaring day you will arrive back in Clifden/Cleggan at approximately 6pm.
