Meet your host at the St.Tola goat farm for a farm tour that includes a walk through the pastures, a presentation on cheese making and production, and a cheese tasting including a wine pairing! On the tour, you will walk amongst the goats (weather permitting) and learn about the different breeds as well as the history of the farm.
After your tour, you will visit the cheese making facilities and learn about the the process before going to the kitchen for a special cheese making demonstration. Your experience will end with a cheese tasting of the different varieties of goat cheese produced on the farm served with Irish crackers, local preserves and chutneys. You will learn all about the various flavors and textures of cheese and the best way to serve them.
If you visit between February and the end of April, you will enjoy the spring kidding season and have the chance to feed the farm’s goats.
You will be visiting a family farm in the rural west of Ireland owned by your host Siobhan and her family After a career as a teacher, Siobhan returned to her ancestral land after she realized how important it was for her to protect the land and community. The farm produces award-winning goat cheese that sells at local food outlets and also internationally - it is even sold at Neal’s Yard, the most well known specialist cheese shop in London! Feeding on local grass and herbs particular to the region, the goats produce a distinctive milk that yields a delicious, tangy cheese.
Your goat farm and cheese tasting experience will be led by Siobhan or Grainne, one of her trusted employees who has worked at the farm for ten years.
