About Guided Tour of Crumlin Road Gaol in Belfast

  • Guided Tour of Crumlin Road Gaol in Belfast

Tour Code: 8980P1

Duration: 75 minutes

The Crumlin Road Gaol closed its doors as a jail in 1996 and reopened as a tourist attraction in 2013. Once home to a number of Northern Ireland's high-profile prisoners, the gaol has a grim history that includes state executions by hanging, child prisoners, and some spooky paranormal happenings. Take a 1-hour tour with a guide to learn more about it.

On your guided tour of Crumlin Road Gaol, visit the reception processing building, where incoming prisoners were processed and washed.

Walk along the infamous tunnel linking the gaol to the Crumlin Road Courthouse, and take in the view of the gaol's center circle, which branches out into four wings: A, B, C, and D. You can explore cells where up to four prisoners at a time would live, plus see the 'Condemned Man's' cell, where a prisoner spent his final days before being executed by hanging.

Your tour ends in the execution chamber and drop cell.
