Join me on my Seamus Heaney Tour – ‘In the Footsteps of Seamus Heaney’ – a journey that is at once appreciative, respectful and grateful for a life given wholly to the joy of poetry and the sense of place.
Having known and worked with Seamus Heaney over many years and having grown up in the same fields and lanes and knowing the same people in his native Bellaghy, I feel uniquely gifted to follow in the footsteps of the great man and to share his journey through my eyes. This is no stranger’s view of the poet in his place, but that of a generation that has been influenced by Seamus over the years and known him personally for decades.
Whether you’re a Seamus Heaney novice or a scholar of his body of work, this tour will be intimate, moving and arresting in equal measure, delivered with the characteristic humour, knowledge and subtlety of a fellow Bellaghy native.
A personalised 4 hour tour of Seamus Heaney's County Derry by Private Car. Collected from your home or accommodation in Mercedez Benz car for a journey through the places and people of the Nobel Laureate's HomePlace. This journey will give you a unique insight into the literary Ireland of the great Seamus Heaney, whose 5 decades of literary genius brought him the Nobel Prize of Literature in 1995. You will enjoy Ireland's beating heart through the unique literary eye of Ireland's greatest poet since Yeats, as well as visiting his final resting place 'in the elbow of the stone wall and to old oak tree' in Bellaghy Graveyard. Includes a coffee/tea break mid-tour.
A walk-on guided 4 hour tour in The Footsteps of Seamus Heaney by mini-coach. Suitable for groups of 11-15 people. Not suitable for large coach groups. This is a beautiful journey through the highways and byeways of Seamus Heaney's beloved HomeGround in South Derry, Northern Ireland. This trip includes admission to the new Seamus Heaney HomePlace - the new multi-million pound centre in his name in his native Bellaghy (opens in September 2016) - and the fields, lanes, spaces, places and people that inspired his life's work.
