About Medieval Museum (Waterford Museum of Treasures)

The Medieval Museum opened August 2012, explores the period from the Anglo-Norman siege of Waterford in 1170 to the end of the 17th century.

Your guide, assuming the character of Mayor Wyse, will take you through 400 years of both his family's and the city's history. Your visit starts with the magnificent 13th century Choristers' Hall and continues through the museum galleries on an amazing exploration of some of the great treasures of medieval Ireland.

Two audiovisual presentations also included in our comfortable theatres.

Highlights include:

  • The Great Charter Roll of Waterford dating from 1373 – one of the great treasures of medieval Ireland – a unique document which features among its seventeen illustrations the earliest view of an Irish city.
  • The magnificent cloth-of-gold vestments dating from 1460 – the only set of medieval High Mass vestments to survive in Northern Europe.
  • The Great Parchment Book, a valuable insight into daily life in the city from 1356-1649.
  •  The bearing sword and cap of maintenance of King Henry VIII. This cap is the only piece of clothing of King Henry VIII to survive anywhere in the world.

Admission fee applies. Combined tickets available for those interested in visiting both this and the Bishop's Palace.
