The Old Bushmills Distillery is the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery having received its licence to distil in 1608. In 1608 Sir Thomas Phillips was granted a licence to distil whiskey by James 1 of England, however, mentions of distilling traditions in the surrounding environs date back to 1276.
The Old Bushmills Distillery is devoted to the production of Single Malt Irish Whiskey. The great tradition and craftsmanship first established in 1608 has been handed down over the generations and has been conserved to this very day. As a result there have been very few changes in how Single Malt Irish Whiskey is made today. An exceptional aspect of The Old Bushmills Distillery is the fact that distilling, blending, maturation and bottling are all carried out under one roof. Self-sufficiency and in-house expertise in triple distillation and maturation are the critical factors in the quality and complexity of the Bushmills family of whiskeys.
