The Burren is one of Ireland’s most spectacular landscapes and the best way to explore it is by electric bike. Beat the hills and the headwinds, and pedal your way through this amazing region steeped in history on a self-guided tour; the electric bike will do most of the work while you enjoy spectacular views of the lunar landscape and the many historical sites; stop at Poulnabrone Dolmen, ancient ring forts and archaeological gems.
The cycling trip starts in the village of Kilfenora, Co Clare, situated 65km from Galway City and 55km from Shannon Airport. Kilfenora is the perfect base to explore The Burren's rich landscape and heritage. You will pick up your bike, equipment and map in Kilfenora at 10.00am to start an unforgettable day in the Burren (transport to starting point is not included). During this trip you will plan your route individually. We suggest the following routes: You can enjoy a scenic ride from Kilfenora along the tiny quiet back roads to the early Christian settlement of Noughaval and across the haunting Burren landscape to the ancient sites of Caherconnell and Poulnabrone. On the way back to Kilfenora you will pass the early Christian ring fort of Cahermacnaughten - take your time to admire the beautiful flora and make a stop at a lovely cafe along the way. Or do an extended trip to the turlough at Carran and the Burren Perfumery, in the heart of this stunning landscape. Another suggestion is to travel deep into the Burren heartlands and visit the Slieve Carran Nature Reserve with St Colman's Hermitage and Eagle's Rock. At 6.00pm you will arrive back in Kilfenora to drop off the bike and the equipment.
