Castle Tours
The Castle re-opened for guided tours in 2001 after an extensive restoration programme lasting a decade. In its present form, the Castle dates from 1785 and is principally the work of James Gandon, James Wyatt and Francis Johnston. The famous Gothic Ballroom is designed by Thomas Hopper, an architect much favoured by King George IV. The parklands were laid out by Capability Brown. Apart from being one of the most important stately homes in Ireland, the building has been used as a location for a number of well-known movies and in 1984 for the recording of “The Unforgettable Fire” by U2.

Concert Venue
For the past 26 years Slane Castle has been hosting famous Rock Stars at the now world famous Annual Rock Concerts held within the grounds of the Castle. Since 1981 Slane has hosted the largest outdoor concerts in Ireland Madonna, Queen, Robbie Williams, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Oasis and REM are just some of the bands that have performed in a magical spot between the Castle and the River Boyne.
Getting to Slane Castle

Driving From Dublin take the N2 road to Slane Village and follow the signposts to the Castle from there. The Castle is located just outside the village on the road to Navan (N51). Drive time from Dublin City Centre approximately 50 minutes to 1 hour.
