The Smarmore Castle is a medieval castle located a few kilometres outside of Ardee in County Louth. This historic house still manages to present the charm and elegance of a bygone age with all the modern comforts that we in the 21st century enjoy, including a full leisure centre on the premises.

There are 5 ensuite rooms in the house including some with four poster beds! The rooms are spacious, feature a large sitting area and have a writing desk; they also come with all the amenities to help ensure your comfort, including a TV, telephone, hairdryer and a tea/coffee making facility. This 14th century castle has been fully refurbished and it includes a restaurant in the courtyard that is run independently. The hotel also has its own private gardens available for guest use and also has ample car parking. The hotel also has a leisure facility which includes a gym, an indoor swimming pool, a jacuzzi and sauna.

If you can drag yourself away from the Smarmore Castle leisure facilities, there is plenty to see and do in the surrounds of County Louth. These include such activities as cycling, hill walking, pitch and putt, snooker, angling on the River Dee, the 18-hole Ardee Golf Course and horse riding at the Carrickmacross School of Equestrian which is located about 20km away.

The Louth County Museum is located in Dundalk and features the history of the area from the Stone Age to the present day. The Agnes Burns Centre in Knockbridge has something for all the family. One of the most impressive nearby attractions is Newgrange, located just over the border in County Meath. This passage tomb is older than the pyramids and stone hedge.
