Go Back
Set deep in the valley of the Argideen River at the head of Courtmacsherry Bay. A sweeping lawn, terraces, herbaceous borders, formal and informal gardens, and a working walled garden all surround a 1920s country house and much ruined Norman castle. The plantings are in keeping with the period of the property and include some interesting New Zealand specimens. The mild and west West Cork climate encourages everything to grow in profusion. The little church near the entrance gates should not be mis sed: Its simple exterior belies a riot of high Victorian extravaganza within, partly paid for by the Maharajah of Gwalior.
