Ballyadams, Co LaoisThe remains of the five storey castle with it's spiral stone staircase and two tall towers, the highest being 75ft can be seen in the town of Ballyadams. The castle was built by the O ' Moore family in the 15 century. Ballyadams history is an exceptionally violent one, the town was captured by the Earl of Desmond in 1548 as revenge for the O'Moores burning of the town and monastery of Athy. The castle was claimed by the Welshman John Bowen in 1551, a man renowned for his cruelty.
