Dooradoyle is a suburb of the City of Limerick in the Mid-West Region of Ireland â although it remains outside the city proper, in the administrative area of Limerick County Council.
Ecclesiastically, Dooradoyle is in the Parish of St Paul within the Diocese of Limerick. St Paul's was created in 1971, having formerly been part of the parish of Mungret - Raheen - Crecora.
The name Dooradoyle means "Bleach-green of the blind man". A bleach-green was a stretch of grass set aside for the drying and bleaching of linen.
Dooradoyle is a rapidly growing, and predominantly middle-class suburb of Limerick, largely built since the 1960s. Several attempts have been made by Limerick City Council to expand its area of control to include Castletroy, Raheen, and Dooradoyle: all currently administered by Limerick County Council. It is located south west of Limerick City on the R526 road , also called the St Nessan Road. The suburb is now bypassed by the M20 motorway to the south. Limerick County Council have their headquarters located here in a state of the art facility next to the Crescent Shopping Centre, the largest shopping centre in Ireland outside of Dublin. Limerick's largest cinema with 12 screens is also located on the site of the Crescent Shopping Centre.
