Kilfinane, County Limerick
Kilfinane is a small market town ) County Limerick, Ireland. The Town's name comes from the Irish words "Cill" and "FhÃonÃ¡in" , making its meaning "Church of Saint Finian." Kilfinane is located approximately 40 km southeast of Limerick, and approximately 70 km north-northwest of Cork. The town has a population of approximately 750 people.
At an elevation of over 150 metres, Kilfinane is the highest town in County Limerick. It is surrounded on three sides by the Ballyhoura Mountains, and on the fourth side is the "Golden Vale" region that runs through Counties Limerick, Cork, and Tipperary. Famous People from Kilfinane[edit sourceÂ | edit] Patrick Wallace Peter McDonald, Member of Parliament for North Sligo, 1885 - 1891. Sergeant Michael Fox, Irish police officer for 30 years, fought crime, solved social issues, drove several foundations to raise money and build a new secondary school and a sports complex which eventually was named after him when he died.
Founding member of the Leitrim Guardian magazine of which he was Lifetime president while alive. Wrote the training manual for the Irish police which every recruit has to use, this task took him over two years, but unfortunately he received no acknowledgement on the book when it was printed.
