Limerick City is only a short distance from Shannon Airport, Ireland's second international airport. From Limerick City, there are rail and bus services to much of the rest of the country.

Limerick-Colbert station is located 5 minutes' walk from Limerick City Centre. The only other station in Co Limerick is at Castleconnell.
From Limerick-Colbert station, there are rail services to Dublin, Ennis, Rosslare, Waterford, Cork, and Kerry.

The nearest port to Limerick is the Port of Cork, in Co Cork, which operates seasonal services to Britain and France. The other main ports are Rosslare in Co Wexford, and Dublin Port and Dun Laoghaire, in Co Dublin.

Scheduled services are operated by major Irish and International airlines from and to Boston, New York, Atlanta, Chicago, and Los Angeles, with one-stop connections from most other major US cities.
