Louth Town, Co LouthIt may be surprising that this tiny town gives it's name to a whole county however the town itself is far from ordinary. In a field outside this village is a little building which, according to legend, sprung up over night to protect the sleeping St. Mochta, unfortunately the legend fails to explain why the house dates from the 12th century and St. Mochta probably died in 534. Nearby is the remains of a 14th or 15th century church, like St. Mochta's house they are thought to have belong to a religious community founded by St. Mochta's in the 6th century. Outside the village lie the remains of St. Oliver Plunkett's church, the martyr's bishops of Armagh, executed by the English for refusing to renounce the Catholic faith.
