Ireland’s No.1 Comedy Singer Songwriter Richie Kavanagh is making a special jaunt from Carlow to Ulster for a six date tour in November & December.
Richie is certainly no stranger to the irish people and even those from overseas. Perhaps he is best known for his hit single ‘Aon Focal Eile’ a song about learning the Irish language in school, but laced with double meaning. The single was in the top ten charts for over six months and a staggering eight weeks as number one. This won Richie an IRMA award for Best Single Of The Year in Ireland in 1996.
Richie says he was inspired to write songs by the travelling showmen who used to tour around the countryside when he was a child in the fifties. The shows were eventually killed off by the arrival of television. "I loved their funny song and dance acts and liked to write little rhymes myself. My teacher Mrs Ryan encouraged me. She was the one who tried to teach me Irish in school…hence the song!
Richie’s new 26 track album ‘Make Em Laugh’ launched in July 07 and is an instant hit all over Ireland, particularly the opening track ‘Never Say Ow’. Other hit songs on the album include A Girl Called Neillie, Big Delph Mug and the infamous Podge & Rodge Song. A song about Irelands two favourite brothers from the fictional town of Ballydung was seen performed live by Richie on RTÉ2 last year.
In November 2007 Richie launched a tour and a brand new DVD ‘Over The Wall’ which was filmed on location around the foothills of Mount Leinster. Due to Richie’s busy schedule he only made two appearances this year, however the time has come for a complete tour that includes stops in Ballybofey, Monaghan, Coalisland, Newtownabbey. Following a three week break Richie will return for two final dates in December stopping in Strabane and Derrylin – a place where he packed in April.
