Church Lane Restaurant is a family business run by sisters Cheryl & Laura O’Connor. Opened in September 2012, Church Lane Restaurant is located in the unique setting of an Old Church Yard. The building itself was originally used as the sextants lodge for the caretaker of the Protestant Church and graveyard and was later used as a family home. The girls father Stephen bought the house eight years ago with the view to turn it in to a restaurant but because the lodge is on a heritage site, this became a lengthy process. The O’Connor’s had to keep the façade of the building intact, but chose to also keep the original layout of the house, what resulted is a restaurant that feels like being in someone’s home. It consists of five separate dining areas; there are two rooms upstairs where the bedrooms once were and three rooms downstairs. The rooms include the Bar, the Green Room, the Grey Room, the Birdcage Room & the Bishops Table, which is a private room upstairs that seats six to twelve at a large mahogany table.
Each room is decorated differently in a vintage style in keeping with the overall character of the house. They spent two years collecting bits and pieces for the restaurant and were able to do it inexpensively through upcycling old pieces and some lucky finds. The bar and bishops room has old reclaimed redbrick that was sourced in Belfast. The lighting, tables & chairs and the bar were all finds from various second hand furniture shops and vintage stores around the country. They even have a new addition of a 1950’s Raleigh bike, once owned by local lady Mrs Eve Mullen, which is now used as a sign.
