Lying at the start of Carlingford Lough, surrounded by mountains on all sides - the Mournes to the east and Slieve Gullion to the west. The area has been a centre of population since prehistoric times when it became established as 'The Gap of the North', the main route between the south and the north of Ireland. There is much to offer the visitor, whether your tastes are for historic sites rich in tradition and folklore, breathtaking mountain walks and scenery, or outdoor sports on land or water.
