Ihave an Ontario, Canada driving licence. Do I or do I not need need an International Drivers Licence to renr and drive a car in Ireland.

Most car hire companies will accept a Canadian licence (assuming it’s in English and not French), however some may insist on an International licence in addition. Best advice is to check with the company prior to coming to Ireland.
