Editor answered 16 years ago

Brian and Kim,

Mairead, above, has the right idea — your best bet is to stay in the city centre and take the bus to the concert; as there isn’t much accommodation nearby (Marlay park is a little out-of-town, and wouldn’t be a destination for visitors other than for concerts)

There are extra buses put on for most concerts, departing from the city centre, so you shouldn’t have any difficulty getting to the concert.

hERE IS INFOR FROM TICKET MASTER
Public Transportation:
Dublin Bus will run a direct service to Marley Park departing and returning to Georges City Quay in the city centre. (Service will commence one hour before gates open).

The 75 bus leaves from The Square, Tallaght and travels through Knocklyon, Fairhouse, Rathfarnham (Nutgrove Shopping Centre) and on to Ballinteer Shopping Centre, which is the recommended stop for the venue. The pedestrian entrance is only a few minutes walk from there.

This route also comes from Dun Laoghaire taking in York Road, Bakers Corner, Deansgrange, Stillorgan Dual Carriageway, Stillorgan Village, Kilmacud, Dundrum and Ballinteer. The Ballinteer shopping centre is the recommended stop. It’s only a few minutes walk to the pedestrian entrance.

The 48A departs from the City Centre (Hawkins Street). This is a very frequent bus leaving approximately every 10 minutes. It travels through Townsend St. then on to Pearse St. The bus stops outside the train station, which is convenient for any ticket holders travelling by Dart from Howth, etc. It then goes through Merrion Square, Stephens Green, Adelaide Road, Ranelagh, Milltown, Dundrum Village, and onto the terminus at the Ballinteer Shopping Centre. Once again it is only a few minutes walk to the venues Pedestrian entrance.

The three rock hotel is just 5 minute walk away from the park and there are lots of b&bs around Rathfarnham that are close by. Marley Park is in Rathfarnham and the 16 bus brings you right beside it from town(O’Connell st.).

Marlay Park is about 6 miles/10km to the south of Dublin city centre. Regular buses (No 16) from O’Connell Street. Recommend http://www.dublinevents.com. -they have a good search engine for B&Bs and Guesthouses. Look for locations in Rathfarnham or Terenure for nearest to Marlay Park (Grange Road). Otherwise stay in city centre (bigger choice of hotels etc) and get bus out few hours before concert.

Might as well add my shouting regards this little problem. Whilst there have been a couple of suggestions made, I’ve looked up the hotel mentioned and couldn’t beleive they jacked up the price’s for big gig’s happening… but thats business I guess.Beverley : You can get a night bus from Dublin City Centre, I beleive the times are about 01:00, 03:00, and 05:00. (best checking with Translink on this to make sure http://www.translink.co.uk )Regards everyone else… *shrugs* Good luck finding a hotel. Way things are atm, I’m thinking city centre for the win.

I went to see Foo Fighters last year and stayed in Dublin Centre. We caught public transport to the Park and got the pre arranged transport back, bought the ticket from the stand next to the bus. There must have been 50 buses ferrying people back from the Park, so no worries on getting back into town. Going to see Metalicca on 20th, sounds like the transports the same.

Oh, and I’d stay in the city, there is nothing to do around the Marley Park area, and getting there is so easy. Although its a bit of a walk to the area where the buses park to take you back to Dublin.
